It’s The End of June

You know that saying “time flies when you are having fun”…that is rarely true in business. Time is sort of the enemy. Every day that passes means that you have a day less of runway… It has been said that companies don’t run out of money, they run out of time.

Well, for 2024, we are at half-time. Maybe we call the early July holidays (Canada Day & 4th of July) intermission for this play. Let’s make sure that the second act is a banger…OK?

Dust off those sales and profit plans from January and look at them under some good lighting. You may have been feeling really hopeful in January and put out a HUGE goals. Did the 1st half deliver? If not, think about reforecasting rather than running headlong trying to hit a goal that is out of reach. Check your profits - if you are running with the pack, the 1st half of 2024 was more expensive than anticipated. If the bottom line is looking rough, spend some time managing spend to your reforecasted revenue. Don’t imagine that you can catch up and hit a goal more efficiently than you have been. (I call that agency physics - much like a car, acceleration uses up more fuel - so catch up on growth and catch up on profit is rarely possible.)

So take a few minutes to see where you are relative to where you expected to be. Adjust your targets, make sure that your are resourced for the plan and get moving. The second act, the second half, the next step starts ASAP.
