My wife is one of those incredibly rare people who is only truly happy when she has a list, too much to do, and not enough sleep. I don't f’ing get it. She frequently says, "If you want something done, give it to a busy person."
Now every agency owner, agency employee , freelancer, consultant, etc. that I know, is really, really, really busy. There are times of year, like this time of year, where there is so much to do that it is TRUE thay you don’t have enough time to do it.
Most of the time, that’s a function of your work filling up all of your time. If you give yourself an hour to do something, its going to take 60 minutes. If you give yourself 35 minutes to do the same task - it probably takes 35 minutes.
But the feeling of busy is real. (Editor’s note - this phenomena of feeling busy is EXACTLY why you need to do some time tracking with your team. Whatever the workload is, everybody ALWAYS feels busy.)
Feeling busy allows you to make choices that aren't good for you…
For us agency folks, busy often pushes out the idea of business building. You're so busy with client work and with admin that you feel like you don't have time to build your business. I know that I felt that way when I ran an agency.
So lots of us skip out on things like content creation because it feels hard. It feels like it's going to take a lot of time. So when we do it, it actually takes a lot of time.
I call BS. 🙃

Most of the time we are avoiding something that has some kind of risk. Maybe it's sales, maybe it's posting on LinkedIn, maybe it's going to a conference. I don't know. But too busy results in something that is way worse than too busy…

You'd think it would be the opposite right? If you're really busy, you've got so much work to do that you're making tons of money. That's generally true for about three weeks. If you continue to be too busy to do the hard things, too busy becomes too broke really fast.

It's kind of funny because we're marketers. We ask our clients to make content all the time. We are in charge of amplifying content and deciding what content gets made. But we're not super awesome about doing it for ourselves…
I know that I have been talking about content forever. We've got the concept of Vibes, Vision, Value, and Visibility (aka VVV+V), we've got VVV+V IRL (hey Ladybugz!), we’ve yummy yummy PB&J Crustables - oops I mean Trustables, & we've got all sorts of content fights with robots.
And still…not everybody is listening and jumping on the "I have to make content because it attracts better buyers" bandwagon. (Seriously, like WTF, man?)
