5 Minutes Is All You Need...
OK - maybe 10, but you can get a TON done in 5 minutes
In Today's Episode
You Can Get a S#!+ Ton Done In 5 Minutes
If you didn’t know, I have ADHD (here are some resources for ADHD Entrepreneurs). I am a lucky person because my wife, partly through her experiences with the 80% of our family that have ADHD, became an executive function coach (she has a really nice service for adults…learn more here).
As such, we are regularly talking about ways to optimize (usually my) time management and effectiveness. Towards that end, here some productivity and management (personal and professional) tips that all take less than 5 minutes.
5 Minute Fridays: Want to keep track of what’s going on with your team without having to chase down updates. Try this —> every Friday, have your team write you a simple email that shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. In that email, ask them 4 really simple questions:
a.) What did you work on this week?
b.) What are you going to work on next week?
c.) What are you concerned about?
d.) What are you happy about?
That’s it. It’s really simple. Here is a little bit deeper dive into 5 Minute Fridays, and the 5MF is at the core of my Agency Kickoff program.Microplan: You start off the day with a plan, but there are a couple of fires to put out, and the dog threw up on the carpet and your afternoon is shot. Take 5 minutes to remake your day - take back control and reprioritize. Just write down the things you MUST get done and rejigger your day!
LinkedIn Content Research: Do you ever see a LinkedIn profile and think, “OMFG, what are they doing that I’m not?!?!” Well, Canadian research agency Antelope has a terrific free tool that will do a LinkedIn content analysis that is really good.
Two Minute Tasks: Here’s the deal - there are a million little tasks that just take a couple of minutes. I tend to let them pile up so they become onerous. My wife is always asking me “How long will that really take?” If the answer is under 5 minutes, just flippin’ do it RIGHT NOW.
Squat Attack: If you are like me and you have a hard time finding dedicated time for exercise, I decided to attack it in short bursts - if I have 5 free minutes, I try to do 25 squats or pushups or some other bodyweight exercise.
Three Minute Meditation: Meditation is really good for your brain. It’s just science. I found a 3 minute guided meditation by Deepak Chopra that is pretty good. Try it (free on YouTube).
